Setouchi City recruits Fishery Resource Producer

Setouchi City in Okayama Prefecture is recruiting a Fishery Resource Producer as part of its Regional Revitalization Cooperation Corps. The initiative aims to address critical local challenges, including a declining fishing population, a lack of successors in the industry, and a shortage of personnel to support fishery cooperatives.

The selected individual will work in collaboration with the Ushimado Fishery Cooperative to develop new products with local fishermen, plan events such as dragnet fishing, and support the recruitment of new workers into the industry. The role also involves participating in joint research projects with Okayama Prefecture and supporting local tourism and environmental awareness initiatives.

Setouchi City intends to expand its Regional Revitalization Cooperation Corps from five members to a goal of 30 by April 2026. The program provides salary and activity expenses for three years, with the objective of helping participants establish independent businesses or long-term careers within the city following the initial term. Applications are scheduled to be accepted from August 12 to August 31, 2026.
