Carabinieri halt illegal high‑speed race in Oltrepò Pavese, seven drivers charged

Police from the Carabinieri’s Stradella unit intervened on a steep road between Santa Maria della Versa and Canneto Pavese in the Oltrepò Pavese area of Pavia province, breaking up an unauthorized high‑speed race involving seven high‑performance cars. The officers stopped the vehicles before the event could endanger other motorists, cyclists, and residents.

The seven drivers are being charged under Article 9 of the Italian Highway Code, which bans motor‑vehicle races on public roads. License suspensions will be applied to all participants, and three of the cars used in the race are to be confiscated. Authorities said they will maintain heightened patrols on main and secondary roads in the region, especially on weekends, to prevent similar incidents.
