Seven-Eleven Japan tests biomass-based bento labels in Chiba
Seven-Eleven Japan has launched a demonstration test to replace thermal labels on certain bento products with materials derived from biomass. The initiative involves approximately 15 items across roughly 300 stores in Chiba City and Narita City.
In collaboration with Osaka Sealing Printing, the company is utilizing ‘Treeloop Thermal’ labels. These labels replace 10% to 20% of the petroleum-based color developers with kraft lignin, a byproduct of the wood pulp extraction process in papermaking. This shift aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, upcycle waste liquids, and decrease reliance on petroleum-derived materials.
Following the results of this pilot, Seven-Eleven Japan plans to gradually expand the use of these eco-friendly labels to more products as part of its broader efforts to reduce environmental impact and promote resource circulation.
