Seven injured in Statale 36 crash near Lecco sparks major traffic jam

On the morning of 18 July 2026, a multi‑vehicle collision and rollover occurred on Italy’s Statale 36 between Bosisio Parini and Annone, in the direction of Lecco. Seven people were involved, including two 19‑year‑olds, a 42‑year‑old, a 43‑year‑old, a 69‑year‑old and a 77‑year‑old. Emergency services responded with a red‑code alert, dispatching two ambulances, a medical car, Red Cross units from Canzo and Valmadrera, fire crews from Lecco and police patrols from Lecco and Milan. Injuries were serious but less severe than initially feared.

The crash caused extensive disruption on the SS 36, a key artery linking Milan to the Swiss border, resulting in long queues from Bosisio Parini through Lecco toward Colico. The road already experiences heavy traffic and periodic works, further aggravating delays. Authorities worked to secure the scene and investigate the cause of the rollover while traffic management efforts aimed to restore normal flow.
