Chiapas authorities locate seven missing migrants in the United States

Seven foreign migrants who had been reported missing in the Mexican state of Chiapas between 2016 and 2023 have been located in the United States, according to Chiapas Attorney General Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) confirmed the location of the individuals, who are nationals of Honduras (three), El Salvador (two), Colombia (one), and Guatemala (one). While the exact date of their location and their current legal status have not been specified, reports suggest they may be in U.S. immigration detention centers.

Following this confirmation, the Chiapas Prosecutor's Office will remove their names from the state registry of missing persons. The Attorney General noted that the office is working to review backlogged disappearance files, particularly those involving foreign nationals, and has strengthened collaboration with the Transnational Gangster Center to assist in locating individuals with criminal records in their home countries.
