Seven miners die in Plateau State mining pit collapse
Seven miners died after a mining pit collapsed in the Kassa community within the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred around 7:00 PM while the miners were actively working at the site.
Local residents and fellow miners attempted a rescue operation after the ground caved in, but the victims were found dead. Some individuals were also injured during the collapse.
Community members and the Berom Youth Moulders-Association have expressed grief over the incident, citing a lack of safety measures and insufficient regulation at the site. Residents have called for government intervention and stricter mining regulations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
