Seven nations bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympic Games
Seven nations have expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. The current candidates include South Africa, India, Qatar, Germany, Hungary, South Korea, and Turkey.
Under the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) new ‘Fit for the Future’ reform process, candidates have until October 31 to submit their interest. The selection procedure involves several stages: virtual presentations to the Future Host Commission in November, a feasibility assessment concluding in March 2027, and a Strategic Dialogue phase through 2028 to verify financial and political guarantees. A final decision is expected to be made in mid-2029.
Evaluations will be based on site maps, athlete experience, funding strategies, political support, and legacy plans, supplemented by independent reports and opinion polls. While the rotation of host continents is not strictly defined, the current field spans Africa, Asia, and Europe.
