Seven teens charged with murder after Queensland carjacking
Seven teenagers have been charged with murder following a violent carjacking at the Queensland University of Technology in Kelvin Grove. The incident occurred on July 24, when a 27-year-old man from Kiels Mountain was allegedly assaulted and his 2025 BYD Shark 6 vehicle was stolen.
The victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but died on August 6. Following his death, police upgraded the charges against the suspects, which include five boys aged 15 to 17 and two girls aged 14 and 15.
The suspects face potential life sentences under Queensland’s “adult crime, adult time” laws. This case marks the first time two female juveniles have been charged with murder under this specific legislation. Several of the accused remain in custody, with court appearances scheduled for late August and early September.
Police are currently seeking dashcam and CCTV footage from Victoria Park Road and Barter Avenue to assist with the investigation, as well as witnesses who may have seen a dark-coloured SUV in the area during the time of the attack.
