Seven-year-old boy and two adults drown at East Mersea beach in Essex
On 22 July, a strong sea current swept three members of a family off the beach at East Mersea, near Colchester in Essex, England. The victims were 7‑year‑old Musa Ahmed, his 41‑year‑old mother Shelina Rahman and his 15‑year‑old sister Sameeha.
Musa was air‑lifted by helicopter to the Royal London Hospital where he died. The father, Shahin Ahmed, and other relatives were taken to hospital by ambulance, are recovering, and praised the intensive‑care staff for their care and dignity.
