Boo Seung‑kwan, a vocalist of South Korean boy band SEVENTEEN, publicly warned the group’s fan community (CARATs) after a former friend from his hometown of Jeju Island allegedly defrauded some fans. The incident traces back to a promotional vlog in which Seungkwan visited a barbecue restaurant run by the acquaintance; the video prompted fans to patronise the establishment. The friend later engaged in conduct that Seungkwan described as unacceptable, resulting in financial loss for fans. Seungkwan has since cut ties with the individual, denied circulating rumors that he prepaid meals for fans, and urged any affected CARATs to contact his agency for assistance. He clarified, “I have never prepaid for fans’ meals… the story is completely untrue.”
The false narrative about Seungkwan’s alleged generosity spread online, prompting the member to address the matter during a live broadcast and to caution fans against anyone claiming to act on his behalf.
