Vernon, a member of the K-pop group Seventeen, has commented on the sonic evolution of the genre, noting that K-pop is increasingly sounding like American pop. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 28-year-old artist suggested that because K-pop producers are highly skilled at incorporating American sounds, it has become difficult to differentiate between the two styles.
Vernon also discussed his new album, V8, which he created in collaboration with fellow Seventeen member The 8. The project leans into hyperpop influences, a genre Vernon is known to favor. He noted that The 8 was the one who initially suggested the unit collaboration to both him and their label.
The lead single from the album, ‘Singasong’, features choreography inspired by the shuffling style popularized by the group LMFAO. Vernon recalled how the ‘Party Rock Anthem’ shuffle was a widespread trend during his time in middle school and sought to bring that energy to the new track.
