Seventh-day Adventist Church reports 480,000 members in China region

The Seventh-day Adventist Church reports over 480,000 members across China, Hong Kong, and Macau, organized under the ‘Chinese Union Mission’. This figure exceeds previous reports that estimated membership at under 400,000. Currently, there are 1,148 Adventist congregations recorded in the region.

In Hong Kong, the church maintains significant social infrastructure, including two hospitals, two outpatient medical centers, a college, a secondary school, and a theological seminar. In mainland China and Macau, the church does not currently operate educational or medical institutions, as original Adventist facilities in those areas are no longer under church management.

The church has been active in China since the late 19th century. While organizational structures were established as early as 1930, official membership lists for the period between 1950 and 1986 are unavailable due to the political climate at the time.
