Severance Hospital opens regional emergency medical center

Severance Hospital has officially opened its new Regional Emergency Medical Center, designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare to serve the northwestern region of Seoul. The designation is valid for three years, until October 31, 2029.

The hospital received high marks in the 2026 emergency medical institution reassessment, scoring 92.4 points, the highest in the northwestern Seoul area. Key strengths included the capacity to provide final treatments such as surgeries and procedures for severe patients, high acceptance rates for patient transfers from 119 emergency services, and successful stabilization of severe pediatric patients.

As a regional center, the facility will manage specialized treatment for critical patients, including those with cardiac arrest, stroke, and severe respiratory failure. It will also serve as a hub for disaster medical response, coordinating with the Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT), fire departments, and police to manage large-scale casualties and regional medical training.
