Severance Hospital ranks first in Korea Wellness Index for 20 consecutive years
Severance Hospital has ranked first in the general hospital category of the Korea Wellness Index for 20 consecutive years. The award recognizes the institution's commitment to patient-centered care, moving beyond disease treatment to focus on the overall health and happiness of patients.
Tracing its history back to 1885 with the establishment of Gwanghyewon, the hospital has undergone significant evolution, including the opening of the Yonsei Cancer Hospital in 2014. The hospital has focused on improving patient safety systems, communication between medical staff and patients, and optimizing clinical workflows.
Technological advancements have also played a key role in its recognition. Severance Hospital expanded its heavy ion therapy capabilities from prostate cancer in 2023 to include pancreatic, liver, lung, head and neck, sarcoma, and recurrent rectal cancers. Additionally, the hospital recently achieved a world-first milestone for a single institution by completing 50,000 robotic surgeries.
The Korea Wellness Index, formerly known as the Consumer Wellbeing Environment Satisfaction Index (KS-WEI), is determined by the Korean Standards Association and Yonsei University using the HESSS model, which evaluates health, environment, safety, satisfaction, and social responsibility.
