Severe Car Accident on Germany's B2 Highway Injures Driver

On July 21, a 43‑year‑old driver lost control of her vehicle on the northbound lane of the B2 near Roth, Bavaria. The car left the road, struck a guardrail, a manhole cover anchorage, and a fence before landing in a ditch where it caught fire.

The driver escaped just before the fire engulfed the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. Firefighters from Roth and Kiliansdorf extinguished the blaze on the car and surrounding vegetation. Because of heavy smoke, the northbound carriageway was fully closed for about 30 minutes, creating a long traffic jam. After the fire was put out, the lane was reopened. Police reported the damage in the low five‑digit euro range.

The incident highlights the dangers of driver fatigue, as the police noted the woman had briefly fallen asleep before the crash.
