Severe gale warnings issued for Crete as winds reach up to 9 Beaufort

The Hellenic Coast Guard has placed the port of Heraklion and other Crete maritime stations on heightened alert as strong northerly to north‑north‑west winds are forecast to reach force 7‑8 Beaufort across the southeastern and western Cretan seas, with gusts of up to 9 Beaufort expected in the Icarian Sea. Fishermen, recreational boat owners and sailing clubs have been urged to keep vessels ashore and avoid any sea‑going activities while the weather warning remains in effect. Emergency vessels, rescue boats and volunteer teams have been readied to respond to any incidents at sea.

The National Meteorological Service confirmed the storm‑force winds will persist through the evening of Wednesday, prompting authorities to advise the public to follow official updates and take precautions against potential damage or accidents on the water.
