Kia driver crash on Munich's Mittlerer Ring kills 26‑year‑old, injures several

On the evening of 10 July 2026, a 47‑year‑old driver of a Kia collided with a VW Golf on the Mittlerer Ring in Munich’s Obergiesing district. After the initial impact he continued without stopping, striking a Toyota that was carrying a 26‑year‑old passenger and a 27‑year‑old driver. The Toyota was thrown against a light pole and rolled onto the median. A Nissan was also touched in the chain of collisions. The 26‑year‑old passenger later died in hospital despite resuscitation attempts, while the 27‑year‑old driver and the other vehicle occupants suffered serious injuries. The accident forced a full closure of the Mittlerer Ring for about three hours, causing major traffic disruptions.

Police have opened an investigation, ordering a toxicology test on the Kia driver and probing possible causes such as speeding or impairment. The driver is suspected of hit‑and‑run, negligent homicide and negligent bodily injury. Emergency services transported all injured parties to local hospitals for treatment.
