Austria and Italy hit by severe storms and earthquakes

Severe weather and seismic activity have impacted several regions in Austria and Italy. In Austria, a powerful storm hit the Salzburg region, specifically Wagrain, where massive hail deposits up to 20 centimeters thick covered streets and landscapes, necessitating the use of snowplows to clear roads. The storm also brought heavy rain and strong winds, causing localized flooding and landslides.

In South Tyrol, Italy, a supercell caused significant disruption with hail measuring three to five centimeters and intense rainfall. Emergency services in Brixen and surrounding areas responded to flooded homes, garages, and basements. Meteorologists reported record-breaking rainfall in some stations during short intervals.

Additionally, two separate earthquakes were recorded in Austria within nine minutes of each other. The first, with a magnitude of 2.5, occurred near Ebreichsdorf in Lower Austria, and the second, measuring 2.6, struck the area between Innsbruck and Wattens in Tyrol. No structural damage or injuries were reported from the seismic events.
