Severe storms and lightning strikes cause power disruptions in Brazil

Severe weather, including heavy rain, strong winds, and intense lightning, has impacted several regions in Brazil. In Rio Claro, Neoenergia Elektro deployed additional teams to repair power outages caused by fallen trees and debris hitting electrical lines. As of Thursday, 95% of customers in the municipality and surrounding areas had regained power, with priority given to hospitals, schools, and police stations.

In the South-Southeast region, Energisa recorded over 33,000 lightning strikes across 24 cities between Saturday and Thursday. Civil Defense has issued new alerts for the Adamantina and Presidente Prudente areas, warning of potential heavy rain, lightning, strong wind gusts, and hail through Saturday. Utility companies remain on high alert to mitigate damage to the electrical grid.
