Severe storms and tornadic threats forecast for Manitoba and Northland

A low-pressure system moving through Canada is triggering a series of severe weather threats across the Northland and the Canadian Prairies. In the United States, thunderstorms are expected to move through western Minnesota, with a more impactful round of showers and potentially severe thunderstorms forecasted for Tuesday afternoon and evening. These storms may impact areas near Lake Superior, bringing breezy conditions and gusts up to 20 mph.

In Canada, the storm risk is shifting toward Manitoba. Forecasters are monitoring a "triple point" in southern Manitoba where cold air, warm air, and an occluded front intersect, creating an environment conducive to tornadic severe weather. The highest risk for severe activity, including potential tornadoes, is expected between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. CT, specifically covering areas from Portage La Prairie, Morden, and Winkler, as well as the Red River Valley near Winnipeg. Parts of Saskatchewan may also experience large hail, heavy rain, and strong winds.
