Severe storms cause injuries and rail disruption in southern Germany

Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain have caused damage and injuries across parts of southern Germany, specifically in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. In Freiburg, at least three people were injured, including two children, due to falling trees. The storms also caused power outages reported by Badenova and necessitated approximately 50 emergency service responses to clear blocked roads and bicycle paths.

In Bavaria, the German Weather Service (DWD) issued warnings for heavy wind gusts up to 90 km/h, heavy rain, and hail. A regional train on the Augsburg-Füssen route briefly derailed after striking a fallen tree in the Ostallgäu district. While no passengers were injured, the incident caused rail disruptions between Marktoberdorf and Füssen, with replacement buses deployed while authorities assess track damage.
