Severe storms forecast for Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota

Severe weather is expected to impact parts of Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota, with thunderstorms likely to develop and move across the region during the evening and overnight hours. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk for severe weather, noting that damaging winds and large hail are primary concerns, though an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

In South Dakota, thunderstorms are forecast to develop in the central part of the state before spreading east. Potential threats include golf-ball-sized hail and wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph. As the storms move eastward, they may organize into a line, bringing 60-to-70 mph wind gusts to southeastern South Dakota, northeastern Nebraska, southwestern Minnesota, and northwestern Iowa.

Southern Minnesota faces the highest potential for heavy rainfall, with some areas expected to receive an inch or more. An unsettled weather pattern is likely to persist through the week, with additional chances for showers and thunderstorms through Thursday and Friday, accompanied by continued heat and humidity.
