Severe Thunderstorm Activity Hits Northern Greece
An intense weather system moved across northern Greece on Tuesday, bringing strong thunderstorms and frequent lightning displays. Images from the Orange Press Agency showed especially vivid lightning over the New Petritsi area near Serres.
The National Observatory of Athens reported rain showers in many regions, including Kozani, Ptolemaida, Karpenisi, Ioannina, Morfon, Tsépelovo, Larissa, Tyrnavos, Amphikleia, Karditsa, Asprovalta and Mount Parnassus. Forecasts call for local rain or storms in Central Macedonia, Thessaly and mountainous parts of Central Greece on Tuesday morning, while much of the rest of the country is expected to have sunshine with scattered clouds.
Temperatures are expected to range from 19‑31 °C in the north, 20‑32 °C in central and southern Greece and similar values on the islands. Winds will be moderate from the north in the Aegean and lighter elsewhere.
