Severe thunderstorms sweep southern Hungary, prompting orange warnings and crop loss
HungaroMet issued an orange warning for southern Hungary as supercell thunderstorms developed, bringing winds over 100 km/h, large hail, intense rain and a risk of red‑level alerts. The warning covers counties including Baranya, Tolna, Bács‑Kiskun, Csongrád‑Csanád and others, with authorities urging people to secure loose objects, avoid trees and power lines, and drive carefully.
In the village of Pörböly, Tolna county, the same storm system produced a hailstorm that smashed vineyards, leaving extensive damage to the grape harvest and prompting concerns about significant crop loss.
Residents were advised to follow updates from weather services and emergency responders.
