Severe weather and flooding threats forecast for California and the Borderland

Multiple regions in the United States are facing significant weather threats. In the Borderland region, an active stretch of weather is expected through the weekend, characterized by multiple rounds of thunderstorms. There is a heightened risk of severe weather, including damaging wind gusts, large hail, and the potential for isolated tornadoes, particularly along and west of the Continental Divide. Flash flooding remains a primary concern as repeated storms move over the same locations.

In California, Southern California is expected to receive the brunt of an incoming storm, with rainfall accumulations potentially reaching 1.5 to 3 inches on mountain slopes. The Big Sur coast may experience heavier rain, raising concerns regarding slick roadways and debris flows from burn scars. While the San Francisco Bay Area may see lighter drizzle and minimal accumulation, higher elevations in the Sierra Nevada could see the season's first snow, with up to eight inches possible in some areas.
