Severe winds in Australia cause power outages and jumping castle accidents

Severe weather and high winds across Australia have caused multiple injuries and widespread power outages. In Sydney, wind gusts reaching up to 100km/h led to an incident in Banksia where a jumping castle became airborne. Three children and one woman were injured and taken to the hospital; the children are reported to be in stable condition.

Simultaneously, high winds in Mount Duneed, near Geelong, caused a jumping castle to be swept into the air during a party. Two primary school-aged children sustained upper-body injuries and were transported to Geelong University Hospital in stable condition.

The weather event has also caused significant utility disruptions. In Sydney, approximately 90,000 households lost electricity, with 40,000 customers affected by Ausgrid and 50,000 by Endeavour Energy following damage to a substation. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued warnings for damaging winds across parts of the state.
