Severn Valley Railway launches Bewdley Express commuter trial

The Severn Valley Railway (SVR) has launched the ‘Bewdley Express’, an eight-week commuter train trial designed to connect Bewdley directly to the West Midlands rail network. The service, a collaborative effort between the SVR, West Midlands Railway, and the West Midlands Rail Executive, began on September 1.

Operating on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, the service provides morning departures from Bewdley at 6:40 am and 7:40 am. Passengers connect at Kidderminster to reach Birmingham Snow Hill. Evening return services are also scheduled, allowing commuters to travel between Bewdley and Birmingham with fewer transfers.

In addition to the new commuter service, the SVR announced the phased return of steam locomotive operations starting September 2, following a period of suspension due to heavy rainfall. The return of steam operations ensures that the upcoming Autumn Steam Gala, scheduled for September 17 to 20, can proceed as planned.
