Sevilla Bienal features experimental flamenco by Sara Jiménez

The XXIV Bienal de Sevilla features the premiere of ‘La compañía’, a new production by dancer and choreographer Sara Jiménez. Performing at the Teatro Central, the work blends flamenco with dramaturgy to create a Kafkaesque parable that explores the contemporary and experimental facets of the art form.

The production moves away from traditional divisions of singing, playing, and dancing, instead utilizing a group of performers—including Julio Ruiz, Mariana Collado, Ana Polanco, Teresa Hernández, and Raúl Cantizano—who act as circus-style characters. This project follows Jiménez’s previous research in ‘Ave de plata’ and ‘Fragmentos de la noche’.

In other cultural developments in Seville, the Alameda de Hércules continues to host artistic gatherings, such as recent collaborations between flamenco and painting. The Taller Flamenco group, celebrating its 20th anniversary, remains active in the local scene, contributing to the city's ongoing connection to flamenco traditions.
