Sevilla City Council approves 1% property tax reduction

The Seville City Council has approved a proposal by Mayor José Luis Sanz to reduce the Impuesto sobre Bienes Inmuebles (IBI) by 1%. The measure passed following a vote from the People's Party (PP) and an abstention by Vox, while the PSOE and Con Podemos-IU opposition voted against it.

Opposition members criticized the tax reform for lacking progressivity. They argued that because the reduction is a flat percentage, it disproportionately benefits large property owners, investment funds, and financial institutions over working-class families. Critics expressed concerns that the reduction could lead to a decrease in funding for essential public services and questioned the actual impact of the savings on the average citizen's household budget.
