Sevilla City Council to Correct Spelling Errors on Luis Cernuda Plaque

The Sevilla municipal government announced that it will fix two orthographic mistakes on a newly installed bronze plaque honoring poet Luis Cernuda. The errors – an incorrect accent on the letter “i” in Cernuda’s name and an extra space after the hyphen separating his birth and death years – were highlighted by the Association of Friends of Vicente Aleixandre. Association president Alejandro Sán​z told reporters the correction should be made “as soon as possible.” The council said the plaque will be amended or replaced within the coming days.

The plaque is part of a broader cultural initiative to create a “living memory” space in the historic centre, installing bronze markers for members of the Generation of ’27. The project also includes a year‑long programme of exhibitions at the Real Fábrica de Artillería and a congress organized with the University of Sevilla, the Ateneo, and the Royal Seville Academy of Good Letters.
