Sevilla honors Marqués de Vega Inclán with new monument
A new bronze bust dedicated to the Marqués de Vega Inclán has been installed in a small plaza at the end of Fabiola Street, facing Ximénez de Enciso Street in Seville. The monument, created by sculptor Jaime Gil Arévalo, honors the prominent defender of Spanish heritage who was instrumental in establishing the Santa Cruz neighborhood as a representative site of the city's history and architecture.
The project was the result of long-standing advocacy by the Santa Cruz Neighborhood Association. The site was renovated using recovered antique cobblestones from Mateos Gago and includes new planters. The unveiling ceremony was attended by the mayor, leaders from the sponsoring company Sandoz, and local residents.
Despite the improvements, local reports indicate recent challenges with the space, as newly installed bicycle racks have led to the plaza being partially occupied by motorcycle parking.
