Sevilla invests 300,000 euros in eco-friendly football pitch
The Diputación de Sevilla has invested nearly 300,000 euros to renovate the San Sebastián municipal football field in Villaverde del Río. The project, funded through the Plan Sevilla 107, features the first artificial turf in Andalusia that contains no microplastics or sand infill.
This specific turf system does not require irrigation for routine maintenance and is designed to optimize material use and facilitate recycling at the end of its lifespan. The technology used in Villaverde del Río is the same system employed by major clubs such as Manchester City, Olympique de Marseille, and PSV Eindhoven.
Local officials, including Mayor José María Martín Vera and Diputación President Javier Fernández, noted that the renovation supports youth sports and serves as part of a broader effort to maintain infrastructure and combat depopulation in provincial municipalities.
