Andalusia requests emergency status for 31 municipalities
The Junta de Andalucía has formally requested that the Spanish central government declare 31 municipalities as seriously affected areas due to civil protection emergencies. This request follows a period of significant natural disasters, including major forest fires and a series of seismic events.
The affected municipalities are spread across the provinces of Almería, Granada, Huelva, and Sevilla. Specifically, 15 municipalities were impacted by forest fires, while 16 others in the province of Granada were affected by the seismic activity recorded between late July and August.
The regional government is seeking urgent legal measures to mitigate the damage caused to private property, public infrastructure, and essential services. In the case of the Granada earthquakes, indemnifications for homes and vehicles are estimated to reach up to 100 million euros through the Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros.
