Sevilla supporter faces prison for racial abuse of Vinícius Júnior
A Sevilla FC supporter faces a prosecution request of one year and nine months in prison for racial insults directed at Real Madrid player Vinícius Júnior. The incident occurred in October 2023 during a La Liga match at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium.
The prosecution alleges the individual committed a crime against moral integrity by repeatedly using racial slurs, simulating primate gestures, and making monkey-like sounds. These actions were reportedly witnessed by stadium spectators and a large television and digital media audience.
While some reports indicated the trial was scheduled for September 22, other judicial sources state the trial has been postponed to May 13, 2027, due to the inability of Vinícius Júnior to attend as a witness and complainant because of professional commitments. Sevilla FC previously identified and expelled the supporter from the club.
