Sevilla taxi driver stabbed 16 times by passenger

A taxi driver in Sevilla was seriously injured early Saturday morning after being stabbed approximately 16 times by a passenger. The attack occurred near the Tussam facilities on Avenida de Andalucía. Despite his injuries, the driver managed to continue driving his vehicle to the Local Police Headquarters to seek assistance. Local police officers provided immediate emergency aid until medical services arrived.

Local police have detained the alleged assailant, who reportedly resisted arrest and attempted to discard the knife used in the attack. Sevilla Mayor José Luis Sanz condemned the incident and expressed support for the driver.

The taxi association Élite Taxi Sevilla has used the incident to denounce a critical shortage of police officers, particularly during night shifts. The association claims that requests for police presence often face long delays or go unanswered, arguing that the lack of personnel turns the profession into a high-risk occupation. They have called on the City Council to increase the police workforce to ensure adequate coverage for night-shift workers.
