Sevilla tranvibús expands service to Plaza del Duque

Sevilla’s Bus de Tránsito Rápido (BTR) line 1, known as the tranvibús, begins connecting Torreblanca and Sevilla Este to the city center at Plaza del Duque this Monday. The expansion utilizes a 12.4-kilometer segregated corridor and a fleet of 16 zero-emission electric articulated buses. The service aims to reduce travel times between Sevilla Este and the city center from 55 minutes to approximately 33–35 minutes, offering 41,000 daily seats with five-minute frequencies during peak hours.

The implementation requires a major reorganization of Tussam municipal bus lines. Notably, line 27 will transition into an express service between Sevilla Este and Prado de San Sebastián via Nervión. Other lines, including 11, 15, 16, and 20, will now terminate near Puerta Osario, requiring transfers for center access. Lines 13 and 14 will terminate at Plaza de la Campana and Alameda de Hércules, respectively, while lines 10, 12, 24, and 32 will maintain their terminals at Plaza Ponce de León.

To support the new infrastructure, the city is implementing a camera-based intelligent license plate recognition system to restrict unauthorized private vehicles from the axis between Calle Puñonrostro and Plaza del Duque.
