Seville and Camagüey host historical memory exhibitions

In Seville, Spain, the Casa de la Provincia de la Diputación is hosting an immersive video titled ‘Del Olvido a la Luz’ through August 30. The ten-minute experience explores the historical and democratic memory of the province from 1936 to 2026, covering themes of repression, resistance, and the recovery of democratic memory. The project highlights the impact of the 1936 coup, which resulted in over 11,000 deaths, and addresses the ‘geography of oblivion’ regarding the estimated 130 to 170 mass graves in the region.

In Camagüey, Cuba, the Unión de Periodistas de Cuba (Upec) and the newspaper Adelante have launched an interactive exhibition titled ‘Cien veces Fidel’. The collection features 100 pieces of communication, including photographs, audio, video, and newspaper clippings, documenting Fidel Castro’s visits to the province and his impact on local institutions. The exhibit spans various periods, including materials from 1959 to 1985, the years 2000 to 2006, and commemorative works from 2016 marking his 90th birthday.
