Seville and Cáceres launch major cultural contests

The Seville City Council announced three new competitions – photography, poetry and artistic crafts – to mark the 500th anniversary of the wedding of Charles V and Isabel of Portugal. The contests, funded with €15,000, aim to encourage public participation and celebrate the historic event linked to the Real Alcázar. Deputy Finance Officer Juan Bueno said, “These calls are a way to bring the V Centenary to all citizens, inviting photographers, poets and artisans to look at an anniversary that is part of Seville’s historic identity.”

The Cáceres City Council, through its Europe Direct centre, opened its nineteenth edition of short‑story, photography and comic contests themed “Spain: 40 years in Europe” to commemorate the country’s accession to the EU. Prizes have been increased, with senior‑category winners receiving up to €1,300. Councilor Emilio Borrega noted that the contests “constitute a magnificent tool to bring Europe closer to citizens through culture and creativity, inviting reflection on the 40‑year journey and the future we want to build as Europeans.”
