Seville construction fire injures at least five workers

A fire broke out on Wednesday morning at the construction site of the Vera Sevilla project, located in the former Altadis tobacco factory complex in the Los Remedios district of Seville. The incident, which occurred around 11:10 AM, produced a large column of black smoke visible across the city.

At least five construction workers were injured due to smoke inhalation. One 22-year-old worker was also treated for first-degree facial burns and evacuated to the burn unit at Hospital Virgen del Rocío. Municipal sources indicate the fire likely started during welding work on fibers.

Emergency services, including local and national police and fire departments, responded to the scene. Authorities advised residents in the Los Remedios and Triana neighborhoods to keep windows and doors closed to avoid smoke. The National Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
