Seville Police warn of rising vape use among minors

The Policía Local de Sevilla, through its Agente Tutor programme, has launched a social‑media campaign to alert the public to the growing use of vapers among local adolescents. In a video presented by Agent Tutor María Guerrero, the interior of a vape device is shown, emphasizing that it contains an oily nicotine‑laden substance rather than harmless water vapor.

Police officials note that selling or supplying vapes to anyone under 18 is prohibited, even for devices marketed as “nicotine‑free,” and that use of such devices on school premises can lead to disciplinary sanctions. They report that more than 54 % of teenagers aged 14‑18 in Sevilla have tried vaping, and 25.2 % of 12‑13‑year‑olds have used a device at least once.

Since its launch three academic years ago, the Agente Tutor programme has expanded from 147 to 272 participating schools and from 33,101 to over 63,000 young people served. In the current school year, police seized more than 9,150 illicit products, including vapes, high‑strength alcohol, nitrous oxide bottles, tobacco and hashish, underscoring the initiative’s preventive role.
