Sevilla housing project sparks controversy over transitory accommodations

A controversy has emerged regarding a residential project by Lagoom Living in Sevilla Este, near the Fibes Convention Center. The developer's plan includes 691 units of protected affordable rental housing (VPO) and 152 transitory accommodations.

Lagoom Living clarified that the 152 transitory units are not intended for tourism, but rather as temporary housing solutions for individuals with specific work or personal circumstances, with a maximum stay of one year. The company noted that these were classified as “tourist apartments” in administrative documentation only because no specific category for transitory housing currently exists in Sevilla's general plan.

However, the PSOE political group has rejected the project, arguing that the inclusion of tourist accommodations significantly alters the nature of the operation. While municipal sources suggest the project is an extraordinary opportunity to gain affordable housing on land not previously designated for such purposes, the political opposition remains critical of the development's composition.
