Seville resident faces prison for alleged fraud of 82-year-old

A resident of Seville is facing a potential two-year prison sentence for the alleged theft of a bank card belonging to an 82-year-old former neighbor. The incident occurred on July 20, 2023, when the suspect reportedly took advantage of a moment of distraction to steal the victim's bank card during a visit.

The suspect allegedly returned to the victim's home later that day, claiming to have made two cash withdrawals totaling 2,000 euros (1,200 and 800 euros respectively) without consent.

Legal representatives for the victim, Sires Abogados, noted that the case is complicated by a pre-existing financial relationship between the two women. The victim had previously provided the suspect with various sums of money totaling approximately 42,000 euros under an agreement for repayment, which is supported by a signed acknowledgement of debt. The prosecution emphasized the victim's vulnerability due to her age and the breach of trust involved in the relationship.
