Sexual crime rates rise in Singapore and Scotland

Recent crime statistics from Singapore and Scotland indicate a rise in sexual offences despite varying trends in other crime categories.

In Singapore, the Singapore Police Force reported that while total physical crimes decreased to 10,287 in the first half of 2026, cases of rape and public molestation increased. There were 762 reported incidents of molestation and 261 rapes between January and June 2026. Additionally, shop theft saw a slight increase to 2,095 cases, often involving young offenders.

In Scotland, sexual crimes rose by 9% over the past year, with a total of 16,560 sexual offences recorded in 2025-26. Rape and attempted rape figures rose by 8% compared to the previous year. The data also highlighted a significant increase in domestic abuse incidents, which rose 19% in the last 12 months. Justice Secretary Neil Gray expressed extreme concern regarding the upward trend in sexual and domestic abuse offences.
