Sexyy Red faces $5 million default judgment bid in lawsuit
Rapper Sexyy Red is facing a potential $5 million default judgment following a lawsuit filed by Nicole Barnes, the paternal grandmother of one of the artist's children. Barnes alleges that the rapper, whose real name is Janae Wherry, posted her home address online and encouraged social media followers to “kick the door in” and commit violence at her residence.
Barnes claims the alleged incident caused significant emotional distress and forced her to abandon her home in Hazelwood. The lawsuit includes claims of assault and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress. Because Barnes was unable to serve the rapper through conventional methods, she obtained permission for service by newspaper publication. She is now seeking a default judgment after alleging that Sexyy Red failed to respond to the legal proceedings by the required deadline.
Sexyy Red’s legal team has denied the allegations. Attorney Jason Lampert described the claims as “baseless and completely without merit,” stating that the rapper intends to defend herself in court. Barnes’ attorney, Steven Weaver, noted that previous attempts to informally resolve the matter were unsuccessful.
