Seyé Police Chief involved in traffic crash amid cover-up allegations

Rodrigo Andrés Reyes Rivas, the municipal police chief of Seyé, Yucatán, was involved in a single-vehicle traffic accident on Wednesday morning near the Mérida-Cancún highway junction. Witnesses reported that a gray truck was driving erratically before losing control and veering off the road near a secondary school.

Local reports and eyewitnesses allege that the police chief appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Following the accident, responding municipal officers and paramedics faced accusations of attempting to cover up the incident. Witnesses claimed that officers tried to shield the official’s identity from the press, with one officer reportedly using a shirt to obscure him while he was being loaded into an ambulance.

Controversy increased when the official’s father arrived at the scene and requested discretion from the media, while being granted direct access to the damaged vehicle. As of the latest reports, municipal authorities have not released an official statement regarding the cause of the accident or the health status of Reyes Rivas.
