Seychelles Cruise Tourism Records Surge and Debuts New Luxury Indian Ocean Sailings
The Seychelles cruise season of 2025‑26 set a new benchmark, welcoming more than 40 ship calls compared with just six the previous year. Eight vessels made their first visit, and the Viking Yi Dun was the final ship of the season. Officials highlighted the emphasis on smaller, premium and expedition vessels to minimise infrastructure strain and environmental impact. Principal Secretary for Tourism Sherin Francis said the success “belongs to all of us” and underscored the need for sustainable growth. The government also introduced its first Cruise Tourism Strategy, developed with the UN Economic Commission for Africa, to boost economic benefits while protecting the archipelago’s ecosystems.
Separately, Emerald Cruises & Tours announced two 13‑day luxury sailings launching in November 2026 aboard the newly‑built yacht Emerald Kaia. The itineraries will sail between Mahé and Mombasa, visiting Seychelles islands such as La Digue, Praslin, Farquhar and Aldabra, as well as Tanzanian and Kenyan ports. The yacht will carry 128 guests, offering intimate access to secluded anchorages and immersive cultural experiences. President of Scenic Group USA & LATAM Ken Muskat described the Seychelles as “one of the last truly untouched frontiers in luxury travel.”
