Seychelles President reaffirms commitment to United Nations on UN Day

On United Nations Day 2026, Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie issued a message reaffirming the nation's commitment to multilateralism, international law, and the core principles of the United Nations.

Emphasizing a foreign policy of being ‘a friend to all and an enemy to none,’ the President highlighted the necessity of dialogue and diplomacy amidst rising geopolitical tensions and global instability. He called for the protection of human rights, human dignity, and fundamental freedoms as central pillars of international cooperation.

The message specifically addressed the unique vulnerabilities of Small Island Developing States, noting that challenges include climate change, economic uncertainty, rising costs, and limited access to affordable development financing. President Herminie urged for renewed collective efforts to meet the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on areas such as healthcare and education.
