Seydişehir Floods Triggered by Intense July Downpour in Central Turkey

On July 7, 2026, a severe rainstorm with hail struck Seydişehir in Konya Province, delivering roughly 20 kg of rain per square metre in minutes. The downpour caused rapid water buildup in basements of businesses, closed garages and streets, leaving some vehicles stranded. Business owner Oğuz Dönmez described it as “the most intense rain I have ever seen.” Municipal water‑works teams intervened, and officials warned residents about further hazards.

In the southern city of Adana, a brief but heavy shower later in July briefly cooled temperatures from over 30 °C to 23 °C. Residents, including local muhtar Mert Kana and citizen Mehmet Özlüak, welcomed the rain as a “relief” from the heat and linked it to broader climate trends.
