Seyhan Erdem uses industrial welding for metal sculpture

Antalya-based sculptor Seyhan Erdem has developed a unique artistic method by applying the industrial E-arc welding technique to sculpture production. Moving away from traditional casting, Erdem uses thousands of micro-welding points to build his works, a process he compares to the logic of a 3D printer where each weld acts like a pixel.

Erdem, a 2013 graduate of Akdeniz University Faculty of Fine Arts, draws inspiration from the movement of molten metal. The process requires extreme precision and patience, as the artist must control temperatures ranging between 1400 and 1600 degrees Celsius. He describes the experience of working with such intense heat as being akin to ‘painting with fire.’

While his sculptures have already gained interest from art galleries and collectors, Erdem aims to host an exhibition to introduce his specialized technique and works to a wider international audience.
