Seyit Aslan warns of agricultural threats in Trakya

Seyit Aslan, Chairman of the Labor Party (EMEP), has issued warnings regarding the agricultural future of the Trakya region during visits to Keşan and Edirne. Aslan highlighted that a presidential circular has placed three-quarters of Trakya under urgent expropriation, a move he claims is intended to facilitate shale gas and oil exploration.

Aslan warned that these energy activities pose a severe threat to the region's water resources. He noted that groundwater levels have already dropped significantly due to unplanned industrialization, and the massive water requirements for shale gas extraction could leave the entire Trakya region without water.

In addition to environmental concerns, Aslan addressed the economic pressures facing farmers, including rising costs for fuel, fertilizer, and pesticides. He criticized the Turkish Grain Board for failing to provide sufficient purchase guarantees, leaving producers vulnerable to market fluctuations.
